Bygones Tangmere Visit

Our annual outing

By Keith Chambers

On Wednesday 29 September 2012 we visited Tangmere Military Aviation Museum. A somewhat blustery and wet day, but as much of what there was to be seen is inside the museum the weather did not detract from our enjoyment.

Tangmere is best known for its WWll exploits as an RAF fighter squadron base, but was actually a continuously fully functional air base from 1917 until 1970.

We were met on arrival by a friendly and courteous staff and assigned a tour guide by the name of Iain who had served with the RAF at Tangmere. He was not only extremely knowledgeable about Tangmere and its exhibits but was also full of highly amusing anecdotes.

As photography is not allowed in certain areas the photos shown here do not reflect the fullness of items on display.

Many thanks to all the staff at Tangmere for giving us an excellent day out.
