This was where I kept a cat on my lap and fed it scraps from the dining room, each day until I got found out. Not quite the year I was there but not much changed when I was there. Before Honour is Humility was on the wall in the Assembly Hall, do not like the new American version.

I was interested to read about the cat on your lap. When I was at school in the 50's, I too did this. It took ages before any of our staff realised what was going on. To protect my gymslip, I used my needlework!! Such an exemplary behaviour!

I was very amused to read your comment, I was also at the school in the early 1950s. On Sunday nights if we did not got to Evensong we had to sit in silence in our night things while someone read to us, and sew our embroidery. Sad to see the school go. It was very strict. and I had the dreaded Miss Conrardy. I have been back in the last ten years. By the way it was a rather lovely black cat.
