In this picture nearly opposite Stevens Bakery was G.J. KINGS & SONS BUILDERS &DECORATORS, I was an apprentice for 5 years for them. My dad also worked for them for many years as a decorator untill his death in 1963. My name is Richard & my dad was Stan Groves.

Hi Richard. When i was a little girl my mum worked at Marine Gate. She use to take me with her. She would always take me into the the old ladys shop and buy me a huge current bun. This was well over 40 years ago but it only seems like yesterday. What happy times they where.

I loved Mrs. Stevens' twopenny buns and penny rolls, hot from the oven. Completely unique taste. There was a cafe across the road where we worked washing up in summer holidays. My two brothers, Don and Archie and I lived up the road at 4 Hillside Cottages.
