A great shot - from a very unusual angle. Will look out for this one for my collection!
What a lovely photo. When I was a kid in the forties and fifties there was a good twelve foot drop from the swimming pool complex to the beach. In this photo the beach is not far from the railings surrounding the pool. I think this is because of the "eastward drift" of the tides and also the stones. The "car park" beach is where we spent most of our beach trips from Bennett Road. There was a ladder from the car park which only the fit would be able to climb down. Further along going west there were steps down to the beach where us and our mum got onto the beach.
My Mum became the Manageress in 1947 when the pool re-opened after the second world war. As a result I spent most of my time there, became a life long devotee of swimming, had a great time and met some amazing people during the period 1947 to 1960 when I grew from 7 years old to 20.
