Charles, the photos are really interesting can you give more information on where in the Brighton area the Coverdale's lived especially the one of Bill, Jean, Pat, Michael and Sheila as the houses look very familiar, could it be Whitehawk or Manor Farm? I have lived in both of those areas in the past.

Hello Marion

The phot you refer to is of the family that Charlie Coverdals married into. He married Sheila the small girl in the picture. Her maiden name was Bennett and they lived in Twineham Road,(where the photo was taken). Their house was two doors up from the entrance to St Cuthmans Church.

Charlie and Sheila are very active members of our History Society.

Thanks for that Vic, I thought the houses looked familiar, I also lived in Twineham Road during the late 50s to the late 60s at number 5 which was on the other side of Lintott Avenue almost at the end of the road, I lived next door to Drew Kowalski (I think that's how his surname was spelt) who was killed in a lift shaft of one of Brighton's hotels in the mid 60s.

Hi Marion I also lived in Twineham Road but on the other side at No37. I remember Drew, I played with Maria Clark and Joyce Page. Do you remember them?

Charles, I hope you don't mind but I've borrowed the photograph of Harry Coverdale to illustrate a post I've written about army numbers in the Military Foot Police and Military Mounted Police. I have acknowledged this site as the source and also given a link back to it. However, if you would prefer me to remove it, please let me know. Hi Susan. I'm new to this site and just read your comments. I lived at 20 Twineham Road and was also a 'Bennett'. I was born in 1943 and went to Whitehawk infants, primary and senior schools graduating in 1959. If you played with Maria Clark and Joycie Page you are a little younger than me. Maria used to stay at my house when there was no one home to take care of her. Her siblings were Pat, Joan, Billy and Gloria. When I visited England in 2008 (I live in Texas) I went to see her oldest sister Pat. Joyce lived on the corner of Twineham and Lintott Ave. Her siblings were Gerald, Brian and Julie I believe. Do you still keep in contact with them? I got married in 1962 and left for the States in January 1963. Would love to hear from you.

Hi Kathy, sure I remember you dont you remember me the little Kid from 37 Twineham Rd that you and Pamela Stunnel used to take to Peter Pans roller rink & other Sunday afternoon outings. Maria and I are still great pals I speak to her every day I still have contact with gloria & billy ( he was a great pal of my brothers Micheal & Bill or Alfie as his pals used to call him) I have seen your brother Terry + wife Yvonne around, we all meet up once at one of these Bygones meetings with Pat, Bill, Maria clark there as well. Then we bumped into Terry & Yvonne at Stanmer park. I remember your Husband when he was a young man, he was blonde & you both moved to America as he wanted to be a GI. Please send me your email address. Alas Joyce Page I havent seen for years last time was when our girls were about 4yrs old & my daughter is 40 now. Joyce's sister was June not Julie and there was also a younger brother Christopher who I met in Asda a year or so ago. I will tell Maria I have tried to contact you Hope to hear soon Take care Sue Beckett (Bennett) ps I also bumped into you down St James Street with your mum, an earlier time when you were in UK
