When permission for more burials was denied at the Quaker Meeting House in Ship Street in 1855, an alternative site was established at Rifle Butt Road at Black Rock. The burial ground remained until 1972 when the building of the Marina necessitated the reburial of the interments at the Lawn Memorial Park.
